Caio César Ribeiro

Life Sciences

A scientist with a lifelong passion for water, Caio César Ribeiro is dedicated to protecting Guanabara Bay from harmful algal blooms. 

His journey began as a pilot in the Merchant Navy, where he rose to the rank of Commander, before transitioning to a career in science. An oceanographer, he holds a degree from São Judas University Center, a master’s in marine biology from the Federal University of Fluminense, and a PhD in oceanography from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. His postdoctoral work at the University of Aveiro in Portugal complemented his research. Caio finds fulfillment in research, as well as in teaching and mentoring students who share his passion for marine conservation.

He draws on his diverse background, which includes theater and dance, to fuel his creativity in problem solving. In his personal life, Caio enjoys swimming because it is low-impact and improves his breathing. He values his special relationship with his mother and cares for his dog, Pluteus.
