Data visualization has direct implications in many areas, from science to journalism. The importance of the topic led Serrapilheira to sponsor the participation of Google senior researcher Fernanda Viégas, a global reference in the field, in the third edition of the Annual Conference on Data Journalism and Digital Methods, Coda.Br, in 2018. The event, in partnership with the Google News Initiative, is the first in Brazil to focus on data journalism.

Escola de Dados is the data literacy program of Open Knowledge Brazil (OKBR). It is part of a global network committed to advancing the use of data to solve real-world problems in support of more informed, sustainable, and just societies. Since its founding in 2013, more than 30,000 people have participated in activities, events, and courses, reflecting its ongoing commitment to promoting a data culture in Brazil.
