How to make mathematics enjoyable for everyone? Serrapilheira and IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) promoted a cycle of six public lectures with great popularizers of mathematics and science in general – the IMPA-Serrapilheira Mathematics Dissemination Cycle. The first five took place at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2018), the most important event in the world in the area, in August 2018, in Rio de Janeiro, and were given by Étienne Ghys, Ingrid Daubechies, Cédric Villani, Tadashi Tokieda and Rogério Martins. Broadcast live on ICM’s YouTube, the presentations had a total audience of 5,790 spectators, including high school students from public schools in Rio de Janeiro, congress participants and journalists. Physicist Marcia Barbosa gave the sixth lecture, which took place in October at IMPA.
