Correnteza

Science outreach / Documentary, Youtube

The documentary “Correnteza” (Current) will, through images and stories captured on-site in RS, discuss the tragedy that occurred in the state and its relationship with the centrality and importance of science as a guide for human actions. It will also highlight the crucial reconstruction work being carried out locally.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report of the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that climate change is associated with at least 150,000 deaths per year, which is expected to double by 2030. According to this report, one-third of the global population will regularly face severe heatwaves and extreme events, like the recent tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul.

This event has shown what science has been warning about for decades: the need to intensify efforts towards actions related to climate change through a set of measures that alter the relationship between humans and nature. Unfortunately, even today, despite all the events, we are experiencing a war of narratives where denialist groups propagate non-scientific versions and seek to confuse the population about the causes and consequences of what we are experiencing.
