Unveiling the invisible of paleontology in the Amazon
Geosciences, Journalism

This project tells the stories of riverine, indigenous peoples, and other local actors who have been essential in fossil collection and the discovery of new sites in the southwestern Amazon, understanding how they perceive these findings. Despite their importance, their stories and knowledge are little known and rarely mentioned in scientific publications. In 2024, CNPq and CONFAP will receive proposals for scientific expeditions in the Amazon, requiring the inclusion of local actors with traditional knowledge. The project’s central question is: Who are the invisible figures of paleontology in the southwestern Amazon, and what do they think?
