Under the executive coordination of biologist and professor emeritus at UNICAMP Carlos Joly, the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BPBES) aims to place the issues of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services at the heart of Brazil’s development model. Its mission is to produce comprehensive syntheses of the best available knowledge from academic science and traditional knowledge on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and their relationships with human well-being.

The Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BPBES) was founded in November 2015 with the mission of producing comprehensive syntheses of the best available knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services. These syntheses aim to support the formulation and improvement of public policies and the prioritization of investments by public and/or private institutions aimed at filling knowledge gaps. Based on the new diagnoses, the initiative’s priorities for 2023 are:

  1. Brazilian Marine and Coastal Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Diagnosis
  2. Thematic Report on Agriculture, Livestock, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
  3. Thematic Report on Invasive Species, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Brazil
