O Haiti é, também, aqui

Science outreach / Podcast

“O Haiti é, também, aqui” (Haiti Is Also Here) talks about the first Black colony to abolish slavery and the second free nation in the Americas after the United States, and how Haiti paid a high price for its pioneering spirit and independence. Sanctions, blockades, and boycotts obscured its history and stifled its growth. The consequences of these injustices reverberate today as the nation grapples with environmental challenges exacerbated by the exploitation of its people and resources under the guise of humanitarian aid. Studies reveal the environmental toll of humanitarian interventions and the precarious labor conditions Haitians face in the diaspora.

Families are broken, dreams are deferred, and Haiti’s rich history remains untold. This season’s narrator makes a science out of his life by interweaving his personal experiences, history, and career to illuminate Haitian reality. As a doctoral student at the Federal University of ABC and someone who has navigated the desperation of displacement, he brings a unique and powerful first-person perspective to the conversation.
