Unveiling the Molecular Secrets of the Caatinga: A journey with omics technologies

Science / Life Sciences

Molecular and bioinformatics tools are revolutionizing plant studies, expanding our understanding of plant physiology, and paving the way for future biotechnological interventions. This project aims to integrate transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome data from Brazilian medicinal plants prevalent in the Caatinga, along with the bioprospecting of bioactive alkaloids. The findings could enhance our comprehension of plants’ secondary metabolism under multiple concurrent stress factors, particularly in a uniquely Brazilian biome undergoing desertification. This research represents a significant stride towards harnessing the power of nature for the benefit of mankind.
