A Causal Approach to Quantum Information (CausalQI)

This project intersects two contemporary and interdisciplinary research areas. Quantum information, which leverages quantum systems such as photons and superconductors for more efficient and secure information processing, is one of these areas. The other is the emerging theory of causality, which aims to decipher causal relationships from empirical data. The primary objective of this project is to develop the necessary concepts and tools to comprehend causality in quantum mechanics. This understanding will shed light on its incompatibility with our intuitive perception of cause and effect. This novel perspective will enable us to explore new regimes in information processing, particularly those involving complex patterns of causal interactions.
